No matter how much you enjoy driving your Chevelle, El Camino, or Monte Carlo, it’s always more enjoyable when you can hit the air conditioning on those hot summer days. Being able to do that has just become a lot easier for owners of 1970-1972 Chevrolet Chevelles, Monte Carlos, and El Caminos. Since 1976, Vintage Air has been creating air conditioning upgrade kits to install high-performance air conditioning in a variety of vintage cars and trucks. The company has just released new Gen5 kits for each of these popular Chevys.
These new Gen5 kits are part of Vintage Air’s SureFit Kits, which means they are a bolt-in upgrade to install A/C in a non-air-conditioned vehicle, or a perfect replacement for the factory A/C in cars so equipped. Each SureFit Kit is engineered for easy installation and minimal modification to the vehicle. SureFit kits utilize most of the factory sheet metal and body features and are engineered as “vehicle-specific” complete systems.
These air conditioning upgrade kits are engineered to cool your vehicle faster, have separate, high-capacity A/C and heater coils with a blend air door for rapid vent temperature adjustment, and utilize improved diagnostics and advanced systematic fail-safes built into the system. The Gen5 kit features a quiet, variable-speed, high-performance blower motor that supplies 20 percent more airflow than other systems, along with larger hoses and ductwork to provide for quicker defrosts.
Complete kits include everything in the evaporator kit, plus all under-hood components such as the compressor, engine brackets, condenser with brackets, preformed refrigerant lines, drier, fittings, hardware, and installation instructions.
